Project Proposal

Our project will centre on live reporting of celebrations, ranging from vibrant cultural festivals like the Chinese New Year to Shrove Tuesday traditions. Through these real-time updates and immersive social media coverage on a shared Instagram account, we aim to capture the energy and significance of each event. To achieve this, we will utilise various media tools, including: video-recording, live-streaming, and photography to provide an original and dynamic experience for our demographic. These tools allow us to document each celebration's atmosphere and personal stories. Reporting on cultural celebrations is a valuable way to showcase people's different cultures and how they celebrate them. These events are full of history, identity and shared values. Real-time coverage lets people experience these celebrations they might not know about, breaking down barriers people may feel through different cultures. Ultimately, we aim to promote a space for cultural exchange, learning, and a better understanding for further diversity. We devised our idea by taking inspiration from Brandon Stanton's Humans of New York. Our project focuses on capturing cultural celebrations through real-time storytelling. Stanton's mix of photography and personal stories on social media is an excellent example of how digital platforms unite people (Stanton, 2016). Similarly, we'll use live updates, short video interviews, and photography to share personal experiences, making different cultural traditions more engaging and accessible.
